August 20-National Radio Day

Originally, the radio was used for navigational purposes, greatly reducing the isolation of ships and saving thousands of lives. The 1912 sinking of The Titanic dramatically highlighted the value of radio to ocean vessels.

As time went on, radio became a source of news and entertainment. Explain to your children how before the advent of television, entire families gathered in front of the radio each day to listen to skits, dramas, and other performances.

Learn about the History of Radio

For some old-fashioned fun, gather round and lesson to these archived recordings of old radio shows on the Old Thyme Radio Network
