SEPTEMBER 4 - Newspaper carrier day, Oatmeal Day
Today is the anniversary of the hiring of the first paperboy. Ten-year-old Barney Flaherty answered an ad in “The New York Sun” in 1833—and soon the spectacle of a boy on a bike throwing a paper onto a porch (or into a sprinkler or a bush or a mud puddle!) became as American as apple pie. Have fun today making hats, hula skirts, and other items out of old newspapers—and don’t forget to recycle the rest! Here’s a site with great ideas and directions for Newspaper Crafts
