May 3 - National Wear Two Different Colored Shoes Day, Teach Your Child to Ride a Bike
Get out in the gorgeous May weather and ride a bike! Weather it's a tryke or a tandem, riding a bike is an activity the whole family can enjoy.
The International Bicycle Fund offers advice on how to teach your child to ride.Learn to ride
Dont forget that everyone should always wear a Bicycle Helmet. When purchasing a bike helmet make sure it has a label approved by the Snell Memorial Foundation for the American National Standards Institute. And remember to ask the salesperson to help you make sure that the helmet fits your child’s head properly.
Bicycle Brakes must be checked yearly. Take this time to check on the overall condition of your bike, checking tires, seat comfort and height, and bell.
Proper Bike Size is the key to a safe bicycle ride. Do not buy a bike that your child will grow into. Your child should be able to place both feet on the ground while sitting on the seat and holding on to the handle bars. Another sizing tip is that while standing flatfooted over the bike, your child should be able to lift the front wheel two inches off the ground.
And to celebrate Wear Two Different Colored Shoes Day? Just do it! Mine are turquoise and hot pink.
