Witch.
Witch who?
Witch you a happy Halloween!

Halloween” comes from the name “All Hallow’s Eve.” All Hallows Eve is the night that precedes “All Hallow’s Day” (also known as “All Saints Day”), which is a holiday observed by the Roman Catholic Church. The rituals associated with Halloween, however, find their roots in the fifth century B.C. with the Celtic tribes who lived in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Brittany. The Celtic New Year began on November 1, and on the night before, the Celts believed that the souls of the dead came back to earth looking for a body to inhabit for the coming year. In order to ward them off, the people wore masks and built bonfires. Later, when the Romans conquered the Celts, other traditions were added, such as apple offerings and cider.

October holidays, Fire safety, October activities

October 1 - Fire pup day, International day of older person, Child health day

Fire Pup loves to teach kids about fire safety. There is also a fun website at FireSafety.gov that covers fire safety basics around the house, escaping from fire and has games to reinforce the lessons. Take a few minutes to visit the site, read and play along with your kids.

Older people have so much to give to our children. Take some time to visit an older relative or neighbor. Encourage your child to ask them questions about what kids did when they were young, what songs they sang and what games they played. Your kids will be surprised by how much things have changed, and by how much they are the same. And everyone will have received a precious gift.

The first Monday in October is Child Health Day.
Child Health Day is based on a proclamation by President Coolidge in 1928 that each child should have a "medical home" What is a medical home? It's having a medical provider who is a central point of knowledge and record keeping so that a child receives well informed medical care. But less than 50% of children have a medical home.
