JULY 11 - Cheer up the lonely day, E.B. White birthday

Brighten someone's day; plan a visit to a senior day-care center. Many of the residents at these centers have few or no visitors. Talking with an eager, happy child will cheer up a lonely person tremendously. Call ahead of time to plan your visit with the coordinator of a nursing home in your area. You can pick one special person to visit, or make the rounds. You can also request to visit someone who doesn't get many visitors and make it a weekly trip.

Teaching your child to be empathetic is an integral part of helping him or her to become a thoughtful and caring person. This is an important learning experience with great rewards for all involved.

Today is E.B. White's birthday, the author of
Charlotte's Web (paper-over-board), Stuart Little, and The Trumpet of the Swan

Here is a fun craft to make a spider web, just like Charlotte did to save Wilbur!

Materials
  • Paper
  • Paper plates
  • Tempera or postert paint
  • String or yarn
  • Felt tip marker

How to
Pour some paint of each color into a separate paper plate.
Dip string in paint  * Splat string on the paper in random designs.
Repeat to form your web
Dip a finger in the paint and make a finger print on the paper (somewhere on the web)
Let dry
Use markers to draw spider legs near your fingerprint
