JUNE 21 - Go Skateboarding Day, Summer Solstice
Today is the first day of summer north of the equator. It’s also the longest day (from sunrise to sunset) of the year in the northern hemisphere. (South of the equator, today is the shortest day of the year.).
The solstice is known by many other names, including midsummer. Midsummer is thought to be a very special day when magical things can happen—many of them involving fairies.
Make your own whimsical winged creature at home. Use an old-fashioned clothespin (the peg kind, not the hinged kind). If you don’t have a clothespin, tightly roll a small piece of paper into a tube and tape securely. Glue on felt or other fabric for a skirt or pants, draw on a face and hair, and glue a ring of dried flowers to the head. Cut wings out of paper or gauzy fabric and glue to the back.
The safest, and most fun places to skateboard are in official "skate parks." Use this hand directory to find one near you. Find a Skate Park And don't forget your helmet!
