MARCH 28 - National Something on a Stick Day

Food on a stick may not be elegant, but it sure is portable! In honor of this silly holiday, choose some of these favorites to feast on: ice-cream, chocolate-covered frozen bananas, corn dogs, and candied apples. Moms, be sure to whisk that stick away from your little one before he or she makes like a beaver and starts gnawing on the wood!

March 13 - Jewel Day

Bring out the costume jewelry and let your little one go to town! Got a little guy who isn’t into the glitz? Then set up a jewelry store and let him be the owner while you play the customer. Or, take your child out to the back yard and “mine” for rocks. Let him or her decide what “jewels” you have unearthed. Take your faux emeralds and rubies into the house and turn them into paperweights. Whatever you do, the time you spend together will be more priceless than the Hope Diamond!

March 17-St. Patrick’s Day

Commemorate the day by eating something green at each meal. Whip up some green eggs for breakfast (courtesy of a touch of food coloring), enjoy some green Jell-O after lunch, a glass of green milk and serve some peas, broccoli or green beans with dinner—and don’t forget the mint chocolate chip ice cream for dessert! Be sure to wear at least one item of clothing that’s green, and don’t forget to stage your own St. Paddy’s Day parade around your home or yard. May the luck of the Irish be with you!

MARCH 22 - Goof-Off Day

Every once in a while it really is OK to goof off—you just need to give yourself permission! Today, cancel all appointments, forget the chores, and just hang out and do whatever the two of you feel like doing. You’ll be surprised by how luxurious it feels not to have to do anything—except enjoy yourself!

March 26 - Make Up Your Own Holiday Day

Ask your child to come up with his or her own holiday concept, the sillier the better. It can be “Goldfish Are Great Day” or “Stinky Socks Day” or absolutely anything else his or her imagination dreams up.

Then invent some games and songs (you can make up the words to the songs and sing them to familiar tunes) to go with your theme. Whip up some cupcakes (decorated with gummy fish or socks piped on with store-bought icing, for example) and you’ve got an instant party!

March 29 - Optimism Month

Optimism is a wonderful attitude with which to approach life. Some research suggests that optimistic people act with more confidence, are healthier, live longer, and feel happier. To a certain degree, optimism can be taught. Be sure to model a positive outlook for your child. By expecting good things, we tend to find the positive in whatever comes our way.
