Junior League, Nutrition, Pasadena

Pasadena, CAGo bananas!  The Junior League of Pasadena, Inc. will host its annual “Kids in the Kitchen” event on Saturday, May 14, 2011. The JLP’s provisional class has planned an exciting event for middle school-aged children from across Pasadena and other local cities to learn more about nutrition and healthy eating habits.  This year’s theme is Go Bananas! From Farm to Table, with a focus on teaching children about where their food comes from. Attendees will learn about health and nutrition with hands-on games and active cooking demonstrations.  Former NFL player Derek Norman will also be on hand to host a fitness workshop.

Kids in the Kitchen motivates both children and their caregivers to be informed and proactive about the issues surrounding childhood obesity.  The program is an ongoing initiative of The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. and is currently in its sixth year.  Junior Leagues in more than 200 locations across the country provide lessons and demonstrations related to fitness and preparation of healthy meals and snacks in partnership with local community organizations, chefs and nutritionists. The Junior League of Pasadena’s involvement with this event enables us to spread the important message of the Junior Leagues’ initiative to address problems associated with childhood obesity and to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues.

This is a free event for children and their caregivers.  Kids in the Kitchen will be held on from 2-4 PM at the Armory Center for the Arts, located at 145 North Raymond Avenue in Pasadena.
